Clay Connor was born in Atlanta,Georgia. Connor is a successful singer/songwriter who has been making music and lyrics work together for a better part of a decade. In the early '90s Connor attended college at Jacksonville State University in Alabama, where his musical journey began. Connor formed Cool Beans in 1994 with fellow band member Beau Nolen. After numerous band members fluctuated over the years, the final members consisted of Daniel Belk, Paul Crawford, Derek Day, and Craig McGriff, who all collaborated on their debut album Pipe Dreams. Clay was the sole songwriter with influences by the likes of R.E.M.,Son Volt, Bloodkin and Radiohead.Connor has since played in The Taylor Hicks Band, Bloodkin and Johnny Barbato and the Lucky Doggs a regular house band at the Flora-Bama.
Year 2007 brought more work for Connor as he teamed up again with Taylor Hicks for the former American Idols summer tour as a guitar tech and stage manager. Since returning to Birmingham last fall, Connor released his new album Maryland Avenue in September. The nine track album features a mixture of alt-country and indie rock anthems. Today Connor is touring locally with Clay Connor and the Criminals, promoting the new album.
