#5 - A Gift of Love
This little tyke never wanted to wear a jacket or hat in the cold winter.
One Christmas he received a special gift that he would cherish.
As he unwrapped his present his eyes sparkled with joy as he held up a new jacket from the Dallas Cowboys. Grandma Purrrl told her little grandson the team sent it and wanted him to wear this jacket with pride so that it will keep him warm.
Now being of true showmanship this little guy was and still is today, he insisted that Grandma Purrrl be the Announcer at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL. She was to announce the team players which she did proudly. Grandma Purrrl would say “Here comes Taylor Hicks, star quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.” The proud quarterback would come running down the hall and into the living room wearing his jacket with pride ready to tackle the cold winter outside. He was so proud the team trusted him to wear this very special jacket.
Now we promised to never reveal the jacket’s true origin. All we can say is that special jacket was a gift of love and made this sweet little boy very, very happy.
This child grew up giving so many gifts of his own.
He shares with us his gift of talent, poise, determination, wit, charm and personality.
He is a true source of inspiration for all children, no matter what their ages.
Grandma Purrrl wishes everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
#4 - "Colors of a Sunrise"
“With each sunrise, we start anew”
~Author unknown
A sunrise is a new beginning for a new day. New adventures and a reminder of another day of life in this wonderful world.
A young boy would sit in front of the patio door and watch the sun rise.
His wise and loving Grandmother would tell him to always remember this.
“This is God’s way of reminding us that each day brings a new beginning and that yesterday is in the past.”
He takes these words with him as he travels across the country sharing his love for music and passion for life.
He takes notice of sunrises and sunsets and thanks God for each day of life he is given. His hope is too encourage children to follow those sunrises and know this is a promise that God will always keep.
#3 - ""Simple Act of Kindness"
"If instead of a gem, or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend
that would be giving as the angels give"
~George MacDonald
Imagine being 3 or 4 years old and having to go to day care every day. It’s hard because you are being left by your parents and at that young age you are not sure if they will come back.
But one child at that young tender age took a different approach to that stressful situation.
Each day he would arrive at day care and assist his teacher any way he could. When one of his class mates showed up in tears and distressed over being left behind by their parents, this young man would walk up to the child, put his arms around them and say these simple, but powerful words of comfort:
“Don’t worry, they will come back for you and everything will be alright.”
This would bring a smile to the other child and relieve the stress for the day.
It’s not so hard to believe that this same child grew up into the wonderful man he is today. Even though he can be shy and reserved, he shares his music and his passion for life with us. The message is still the same as it was in day care….
”It will be alright, just listen to what I’m saying and everything will be fine.”
#2 - "Butterflies and Karma"
“You can chase a butterfly all over the field and never catch it.
But if you sit quietly in the grass it will come and sit on your shoulder”
~Unknown
Not too long ago a young man lived in South Birmingham, AL. He was an aspiring musician who was becoming frustrated because his career didn’t seem to be going anywhere.
One day he looked out onto his deck and saw it covered in butterflies. He watched in silence and was mesmerized by the colors of these beautiful creatures. He couldn’t help but wonder if there is a meaning to this phenomenon.
He picked up the phone and called his Grandmother and tells her what just happened. He asked her this question…”Grandmother could this be a sign that something good is going to happen to me?”
His Grandmother didn’t know the answer to this. She only knew that God created these beautiful creatures and they started their lives out as caterpillars but grow into something beautiful to fly out into the world transformed.
The young man ponders this for a while then replies:
“I believe in Karma and believe that what you put out you always get back....I believe this is a sign and that everything is going to work out.”
Today he is living his dream and lives by the rule that in order to succeed in life, one must be true to themselves and to those around them.
#1 - "Always live each day to its fullest"
This was told to a child by a very loving Grandmother many times while he was growing up. He was very young when she shared with him these powerful words but he knew what she was saying. This young child indeed lived each day to its fullest and continues to do so today.
He developed a strong passion for music as a young child often sitting in front of the stereo with his Grandmother listening to music of Ray Charles, Etta James, Sam Cooke and other great jazz and blues Artists. Together they would listen to each instrument and he and his Grandmother would talk about that instrument for hours.
That was inspiration.
This young child grew up with a passion for music as well as a passion for life. He stayed true to his dreams and to himself. He went on to become an American Idol and he is adored today for the passion and inspiration that he shares with all of his fans.
